Not out of the question at all! I think I've always noticed a connection between the approach of musicians like Cage who were exploring, among other things, the mysteries of perception and the silent and devotional practices of the mystics of yore.
Interesting comparison! I often think of this excerpt from Octavio Paz' poem, "On reading John Cage:
"music
invents silence,
architecture
invents space....
Silence is music,
Music is not silence..."
